How to Write a Special Report

A customized financial report that deviates from standard reporting formats. Creating special reports requires understanding unique information needs and reporting objectives while maintaining professional standards and clarity. Examples include a special report prepared for a major donor to show how their grant dollars were used in different programs, or a special report that is issued to comply with regulatory requirements or contractual agreements requiring audited financial statements.

A special report should be clearly labeled and have a concise, informative title. Authors should identify the significance of the topic covered in their expert opinion and describe the research discussed. A brief list of keywords, in alphabetical order, is required to assist in indexing the article. Authors should obtain a letter of permission from all individuals cited in the paper (or a signed statement of consent) to use personal communications.
