A special report is a news program that follows breaking stories. Depending on the severity of the story, a network may interrupt regular programming to continue coverage for several hours or even days. During this sustained coverage, stations will usually feature the story on their ticker or use modified lower thirds and other graphics to convey a sense of urgency. Depending on the severity of the event, the program might also include commentary from analysts in-studio, via phone, satellite or broadband (B-GAN) to provide additional analysis and insight.
