Global health. Food security. Humanitarian aid. Environmental sustainability. These are just a few of the world’s most pressing problems that no single country can solve on its own. With a degree in global affairs, you’ll develop the knowledge and real-world skills to work with international partners and help build solutions.
This interdisciplinary major connects the big picture of how the world works, from politics and economics to culture and history. You’ll learn to think flexibly across disciplines, cultures and time periods and to identify the connections that drive and complicate today’s global issues.
In addition to a solid foundation in political science, sociology and anthropology, the courses you’ll take as a global affairs major will include those from other fields such as business, environmental studies, history, journalism, religion and languages. These diverse learning experiences prepare you to think critically about global challenges and how to make a difference as a global changemaker.
You’ll also gain practical experience in the world of global affairs through hands-on simulations like Model United Nations, opportunities to travel and study abroad, and research with renowned professors on topics including global business and economy, energy, diplomacy and conflict, international law and development and international organizations and governance. In your senior year, you’ll apply your academic training to a real-world problem in a global affairs capstone project or write a senior essay in a seminar of your choice or in GLBL 4500, the senior essay course for global affairs majors.
