The front-page is where major news stories are featured in a newspaper. Ideally, these will be from the country in which the newspaper is circulated, but if there is something extremely significant happening in another part of the world, this may also find a place on the front page. The front page will often tease other interesting stories inside the edition as well.
The term front-page is also used for a certain online news site, Reddit, which describes itself as the “front page of the Internet.” It may also refer to the top article on any website or publication, and it could even mean anything that is considered important enough to be featured prominently.
In 2014, three anonymous women (known as Jane Does) sued the online marketplace Backpage for allegedly facilitating their sex trafficking, accusing the company of violating the federal Defamation Act and other laws by allowing their traffickers to post ads featuring them. However, the court ruled that Backpage was performing traditional publisher functions when it edited the ads involving the Jane Does and thus was protected under CDA Section 230. The Jane Does later dropped the lawsuit. However, a related lawsuit against Village Voice Media (VVM) alleged that Backpage was liable for the sex trafficking claims.
